Paulin BÜNDGEN, countertenor

Paulin Bündgen, countertenor, graduated from the Lyons Conservatoire (CNSM) and went on to study with Marie-Claude Vallin, Dominique Vellard, Isabelle Eschenbrenner and Mireille Deguy. He works with well-known ensembles such as Doulce Mémoire, le Concert Spirituel, Akadémia, Elyma, Clément Janequin, les Paladins, Vox Luminis, le Concert de l'Hostel-Dieu and la Fenice. He appears regularly at the Lyons Early Music Festival, the Nuits Musicales d'Uzès, the Beaune, Pontoise and Ambronay Festivals, amongts others. He also sings with les Jardins de Courtoisie, directed by the soprano Anne Delafosse. His activities as a soloist have taken him to many of Europe's most prestigious venues (Spain, France, Polland, Croatia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Monaco, Switzerland) and also in the USA (Miami Festival). Paulin Bündgen is also very keen on contemporary music and has performed works (including first performances) by Baboni-Schilingi, Goude, Nyman, Charpentier, Bryars and Wallen. In opera, he has sung the title role in Charpentier's Actéon, Mercure in Brossard's Typhon et les Géants, Pastore in Monteverdi's Orfeo, Mercurio in Landi's la Morte d'Orfeo and Endimione in Cavalli's la Calisto, Cirilla in Cavalli's Gli Amori di Appolllo e Dafne. He has recorded many CDs, from middle-ages music (Chansons by Adam de la Halle) to contemporary music (Aux solitudes by Jean-Philippe Goude), including works of Scarlatti, Pachelbel, Haendel, Bach. He recorded for the labels Ambronay, Glossa, Arion, Zig Zag Territoires, Ricercar, Cynfeirdd... He founded the Ensemble Céladon in 1999 and recorded two CDs for Arion with this group : Soledad tenguo de ti (portuguese renaissance music) and Cazzati's sacred cantatas.
